Possible Social Media Surveillance on High Risk Visa Holders

The aim for the Visa Lifecycle Vetting program, reports AXIOS, is to have automatic notifications sent through to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Officials about the social media activity of visa holders that could be considered high risk.

Civil rights groups and engineers are worried about the repercussions of such a program. Especially with Trumps administration calling for “extreme vetting” and his campaign for a possible ban on Muslims, the program has potential to be highly discriminatory towards Muslim visa holders.

ICE representative Carissa Cutrell, defended accusations by explaining that the program was simply just a request for information.
