China Media: New Secrecy Law
A new secrecy law in China, which details rules on how to safeguard state secrets and defines secrecy levels of information, is due to come into force on March 1, 2014, .
The law aims to increase transparency and will prevent government officials from classifying unnecessary information as “secret” thereby preventing their publication.
However, it has not been revealed which categories of information will remain “secret” which makes a slight mockery of the new objective to be transparent. The new rules are also alleged to remain on the vague side when defining the categories.
