Uber Bows to Thai Transport Law, Pulls Bike Hailing Service
The same thing happened with GrabTaxi back in March, now transport giant Uber has also pulled it’s motorbike taxi hailing service.
In traffic heavy Bangkok, motorbike taxis are a popular way to get around. However, like GrabTaxi, Uber has been conflicted by those registered to provide taxi services at the transport ministry.
Uber’s Asia-Pacific spokeswoman Amy Kunrojpanya said: “We will temporarily suspend UberMoto services. We are doing it because we respect Thai laws. We see the need to cooperate with related agencies and have the intention to operate under the existing law.”
Authorities have so far arrested 66 motorcycle drivers working for Uber and Grab Bike.
