Thai Military Launches Defamation Complaint Against Canadian Lawyer
The Star | In June, the president of Zambia launched a defamation lawsuit against Canadian lawyer Robert Amsterdam. Earlier this week, the head of Thailand’s army followed suit. Amsterdam, who has made a name for himself as a advocate of human rights, isn’t backing down from his criticisms of either government.
In January 2011, Amsterdam’s firm presented an application to the International Criminal Court on behalf of Thailand’s National United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship asking it to investigate senior for alleged crimes against humanity in the spring of 2010, when the government opened fire on demonstrators calling for elections.
