Thailand’s Malay Muslim Insurgency Turning Jihadist
The Irawaddy Magazine is reporting that the insurgency in Southern Thailand is becoming more Islamist in nature. The Thai -Malaysian border has long been troubled by insurgency, but it has a history of being “nationalist, not religious.”
Since the new wave of violence in 2004, the “Islamization” of the insurgency has deepened, as Buddhist monks and teachers have been targeted, and militants threatened to kill anyone not respecting the Sabbath.
