U.S Federal court rules that sexual orientation falls under federal sex discrimination law
In a landmark ruling, a U.S federal court has ruled that any discrimination towards sexual orientation is illegal under the federal sex discrimination law according to a report by HR Morning.
The court’s ruling came during a lawsuit filed by U.S Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) against Scott Medical Health Center on behalf of a gay employee who had been discriminated against because of his sexual orientation. The continued harassment forced him to quit his job.

The health center moved to dismiss the suit which was then denied by the federal court, which ruled that sexual orientation discrimination is a type of discrimination “because of sex,” which is barred by Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
Movement towards tolerance of the LGBT issues is taking hold in various parts of the globe. However, discrimination against sexual preferences is still rampant in other parts.
