Hundreds of protesters gathered at a Californian intersection, Roseville, to express their views against Sharia law. The march was organized by ACT for America and is part of a larger, nationwide march the organization put on.
According to Teaching Tolerance, “Sharia stands for Islamic or sacred law” and “represents how practicing Muslims can best lead their daily lives in accordance with God’s divine guidance.”

However, the law has been condemned by many for its harsh punishments which include stoning and cutting off of limbs. The law also mandates women to be covered in black.
“Our nation is built on the freedom of religion — a pillar of our democracy — which we must always respect, protect, and honor,” ACT for America said on its website.“However many aspects of Sharia law run contrary to basic human rights and are completely incompatible with our laws and our democratic values.”
Protesters clarified that the march was not “anti-muslim” but stated that they only “want people in here who are going to obey our laws.”
The march was met with resistance from Answer Coalition (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism).
“Every time there is hate or racism we have to stand up and show opposition to that,” one demonstrator said. “I am here standing in favor of multiculturalism, in favor of human rights. Not so much just against (ACT for America), but pro-human rights.”
