‘Triple talaq’ is the act of pronouncing the word ‘divorce’ three times, which has previously enabled men to instantly dissolve their marriages.
After decades of campaigning by women’s rights groups, Delhi’s Supreme Court finally declared that it ‘violates constitutional morality’. The decision has been hailed as a victory for India’s large population of Muslim women, not just by activists and victims, but also by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
