Divorce laws change to grant women the right to remarry without waiting in Japan.
Previously in Japan women had to wait at least 6 months before they could remarry, whereas men did not have to wait even a day.
A woman in her 30’s from the Okayama prefecture took a stand at the Supreme Court last year as she was not happy with the ‘Civil code’s remarriage ban’.
The Supreme Court determined the code was unconstitutional, which led the Japanese Diet to ‘pass an amendment last week’.
Under the new amendment women will no longer have to wait a single day to remarry, now in line with men.

MPs decided that the only exception to this new change in divorce law is that Japanese women must wait one hundred days to be remarried if they are pregnant.
