Genetically modified organisms (GMO) have been increasingly infiltrating the global produce market. Mega-companies such as Monsanto produce large quantities of fruits and vegetables that have been shown to contain harmful chemicals.
Even though many countries such as Thailand require labelling GMOs have still been found in the food. Much of this is due to labels listing GMO only if it is over a certain amount. Organizations such as GM Watch and Earth Open Source have been fighting the GMO battle trying to improve the global food system.
Claire Robinson, editor at GMWatch and research director with the food sustainability nonprofit Earth Open Source delves into what GMOs are and why so many people are fighting to eliminate them.
