Philadelphia will No Longer Prosecute Marijuana Possession Offenders

by Admin on February 23, 2018

The progressive decriminalization of marijuana possession was inducted in 2014 where cases that involved 30g of cannabis were shifted to a $25 fine and no criminal record. Since then, marijuana possession arrests have declined by 85%.

Police have still made a notable amount of arrests despite the decrease, particularly targeting people of color. The D.A for Philadelphia has announced that the additional cases will no longer be prosecuted; cases involving marijuana possession will be dropped.

Philadelphia follows in suit to other states that have adopted similar legal measures towards marijuana possession such as Seattle and San Francisco.
