University of Texas Dean Quits Over Gun Carry Law

by Admin on March 2, 2016

A University of Texas dean is resigning his post over a new state law which permits students to carry concealed handguns on campus.

Dean Frederick Steiner argues that the policy does not “make logical sense” and is not “appropriate” for higher education.

He told Fox News:

“I grew up believing there was an appropriate place for guns and it was not in a place of higher education and higher learning.”

A number of students and higher education officials have expressed concern over the law, which will come into effect in August.

Those opposed to the law say it may discourage students from attending universities in Texas. Those in favor of the law say it’s “critical” for both self-defense and maintaining constitutional rights.
