Beach Party Ban in Surat Thani Creates Controversy

Tourism operators in Surat Thani are worried that a new ban on beach parties recently announced by the governor will deter tourists from visiting the area, reports Thai PBS.

According to Thai PBS, Governor Chatpong Chatapoot instructed local police units to stop all beach parties as a precautionary reaction “to protect tourists from harm” following the murders of two British tourists in Koh Tao. The full moon party on Koh Pha-ngan’s Rin beach will still be permitted.
