Thailand Introduces New Law to Protect LGBT Community
Thai authorities have been praised by the LGBT community for introducing a law that aims to protect the rights of any sexual orientation or gender identity, reports Pink News.
Thai parliament passed the 2015 Gender Equality Act in March, but it only came into effect this week.
It will punish anyone engaging in gender or sexual orientation discrimination. Those found guilty will face up to six months behind bars and a 20,000 baht fine.
The new law states that “unfair discrimination among the sexes” is any act which “segregates, obstructs or limits the rights” of a person because they have “a sexual expression different from that person’s original sex.”
