In Jordan, numerous Christian men convert to Islam when they intend to divorce.

As Jonathan Turley reports, under Article 172 of Jordan’s personal status law, a Muslim will automatically receive custody of children over seven years of age when divorcing a Christian woman.

Bangkok divorce lawyers Chaninat and Leeds have been handing divorce cases in Thailand and abroad for decades.

In what Turley calls “an example of the perils brought forth in countries having two legal systems,” this means that conversion can be appealing to husbands who feel they could be at a disadvantage based upon other factors, such as the court proving it may be in the children’s best interests to live with the mother.

The Kingdom of Jordan is 95% Muslim, with a population of about 180,000 Christians.
