Turkish MP’s have supported a bill that gives child rapists a ‘get out of jail’ free card if they marry their victims.

Independent reports that the ruling, which was made by the Justice and Development Party (AKP), has unsurprisingly received heavy criticism from the public and opposition parties. They protested that the bill legitimized the act of raping of a child and would encourage it.

Supporters of the bill said that it was misinterpreted and that the bill is meant to solve legal complications that arise from child marriages.
