Tofu Made with Bleach Seized in China
Chinese police seized 10 tons of tofu made with toxic ingredients from a gang in eastern China, according to the International Business Times.
The confiscated batch of tofu reportedly contained banned products for food production including pure rongalite, a bleaching agent. IBTimes reports that the gang from eastern China used the banned products to make the tofu “shinier and chewier.”
Tofu is a staple in the Chinese diet and the Chinese authorities believe that up to 100 tons of the “toxic” tofu could still be on the market.
IBTimes reports that four men were arrested following the discovery.
