Hot! Cambodian Court Adds Mass Killings to Khmer Rouge Trial

Bangkok Post | A mass killings episode has been added to the trial of three former Khmer Rouge leaders in Cambodia’s UN-back court.
The prosecution wanted three more crime sites to be part of the trial but judges said they did not want to “risk a substantial prolongation of the trial.”  The alleged killing of up to 3,000 former military officers at an execution site in Cambodia was the only one approved.
Last year the case was split into a series of smaller trials, starting with the forced evacuation of the population into rural labour camps.
According to Cambodian attorneys, so far the court has jailed only one man-former Khmer Rouge prison chief Kaing Guek Eav, who was sentenced to life in prison for overseeing the deaths of some 15,000 people.
