New York Offers Reward for Reporting Illegal Gun Owners
While the state of New York has been offering a $500 reward for reporting illegal gun owners for over a year, only recently did the “well-kept secret” gain publicity. Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the reward in a press release issued in February 2012, but authorities revived the program hoping to gain more publicity for it. CBS-6 News reported on the existence of the reward program last Wednesday, and it has since gained nationwide notoriety.
Some have criticized the program, saying it calls for New Yorkers to spy on each other.
