New Divorce Law in Gaza Will Be Trouble for Women, Experts Warn
The higher Sharia Court Council in the Gaza Strip will now allow men to file for divoce if his wife is physically or verbally abusive toward him.
The feminist community has been quick to criticize the decision, with concerns that the women in question will have none of her usual rights in such a divorce.
Until now, only women could apply for a divorce on abuse claims. This was because men were allowed to divorce their wives without providing a reason or filing a suit in court.
